  • Street Sweeping

Chicago employs mechanical street sweepers to effectively eliminate debris and litter from its streets.

To ensure comprehensive curb-to-curb cleaning, bright orange temporary parking restrictions are put in place from April 1st through mid-November, with the posting of scheduled sweeping services a day in advance. In addition, designated arterial streets have permanent signage indicating a weekly period when parking is prohibited for street sweeping. You can access the sweeping schedule here or refer to the map here for further information.

  • Black Garbage Cart Collection

Each year, Chicago collects an estimated 1.1 million tons of residential garbage and recyclables on a weekly basis, from Monday through Friday. Since 2013, the City of Chicago has implemented an innovative grid program to optimize garbage collection services. You can check the specific date of your garbage collection by clicking here.

If you encounter any issues with your garbage disposal services, such as missed pick-ups, missing or stolen garbage carts, or the need for additional carts, please report the issue promptly here.

  • Public Safety

If this is an emergency or if a criminal incident is currently in progress, please call 911 for immediate assistance. Please visit the Chicago Police Department's Community Concerns site to report or track the status of non-emergency issues related to criminal activity, troubled buildings, or police performance.

  • Snow Removal

To ensure that the most critical roadways in Chicago remain fully operational, the City has implemented a Winter Overnight Parking Ban on 107 miles of vital arterial streets. This ban is enforced from 3 am to 7 am between December 1st and April 1st, regardless of snow conditions. It is imperative that motorists adhere to this permanently posted seasonal tow zone to avoid facing a $150 towing fee (minimum), a $60 ticket, and an initial $25 daily storage fee.

In addition to the Winter Overnight Parking Ban, a separate snow-related parking ban exists for another 500 miles of main streets. This ban can be activated after there are at least two inches of snow on the street, irrespective of the time of day or calendar date. While the 2-inch snow ban is not activated frequently, motorists who are parked there when it snows may receive a ticket or find that their vehicle has been relocated to facilitate snow clearing operations. You can learn more on these parking bans here.
